Leadership
The people behind Veterans Grappling Foundation
Scott Steer
Founder
Scott is the reason Veterans Grappling Foundation exists. A combat veteran, Border Force officer, and black belt, he founded VGF in 2021 after seeing too many mates struggle through the transition out of service with nowhere to land. He built what he wished had existed for him, and his commitment to this community has not wavered since day one. Everything VGF delivers today carries his fingerprints.
Gavin Kelly
Director
Gavin is one of the most accomplished figures in Australian Judo. Fourteen national titles, a Commonwealth Games medal, a US Open Championship, and twenty years representing Australia on the international stage. He went on to coach the Australian Olympic Judo Team at the 2008 Beijing Games. Alongside his sporting career, Gavin has served with the Australian Federal Police. VGF is fortunate to have his experience, credibility, and genuine passion for the veteran and first responder community on the board.
Carli Renzi
Director
Carli represented Australia at the London 2012 Olympics in Judo and won multiple Australian and Oceania Championships throughout her competitive career. Beyond the mat, she has held senior leadership roles at Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, and Westpac. Her combination of elite athletic discipline and corporate governance experience is rare, and VGF is grateful to have her insight and support guiding the foundation as it grows.
Supporting veteran recovery through structured community sport and connection since 2021.
