Veteran Grappling has the vision to improve the lives of current serving, former serving Military (ADF) and first responders through physical and mental health services.
The world-first program offered by our foundation is Veteran Grappling which consists of individual and class settings where students are exposed to Judo, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu (BJJ), wrestling, yoga, and mindfulness.
The program is currently offered only on the Gold Coast at our HQ. We are looking to expand into other regions so if your a veteran or first responder that runs a dojo/ gym please reach out.
HQ – Unit 3/ 19 Industrial Ave, Molendinar QLD 4214, Australia – on the Gold Coast. See our schedule above for class times.
The classes are designed by experienced instructors who have an extensive amount of knowledge in the grappling arts and are combined with the medical team knowledge of Doctors, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, and exercise physiologists. This ensures all members can get something out of the classes as we are all at different levels of ability and restricted through injuries attained from service.
The Australian Veteran Owned Business is the only organisation of its kind in Australia. We are a non-profit third party certifier which promotes the recognition of Australian Defence Force veteran owned and operated businesses.
Veteran Grappling was established in 2019 by ADF combat veteran Scott Steer. Our vision is to improve the lives of current serving and former serving Military (ADF and its Allies) Police, Ambulance, Firefighters and other first responders through physical and mental health services.

Judo is a Japanese sport focusing on using your opponent’s weight and strength against them. Judo provides a great physical and mental workout while developing and improving your balance, co-ordination and confidence through the implementation of throwing techniques, pins, arm locks, and choking techniques. Judo translated simply means “The gentle way.” This is due to the fact that it relies more on feel than brute strength. This is why a smaller person can defeat a bigger, stronger opponent.

BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique
Like Judo, Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) is a sport that focuses on using your opponents strength and force against them using leverage, positioning and technique. BJJ’s origins stem from the Japanese Kodokan Judo which was introduced to the Gracie family in the early 1900’s in Brazil.
Since then, the sport has evolved into what we have today. Here at Veterans Grappling we love the art of Brazilian jiu jitsu, and teach it as a whole, complete system. We are not competitive athletes who fight for points, we purely enjoy learning new concepts and ideas, and testing them out in a controlled environment.
